Donation to the Murer House Foundation
In conjunction with construction of the Lake Natoma Crossing and widening of Folsom Boulevard in 1997, the City of Folsom acquired the Murer House and Gardens property to preserve it for the benefit of current and future generations. Shortly thereafter, the Murer House Foundation (MHF), a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was formed to operate and maintain the site on behalf of the City.
The mission of the MHF is to preserve and protect the Murer House and Gardens by cultivating and promoting greater community awareness of the site, its long and unique history, as well as its links to Folsom’s Italian heritage. The MHF also serves the City as the official liaison with Folsom’s sister city in Italy, Pieve Del Grappa.
Since 1997, the MHF has steadily expanded it on-site programming including Italian cooking and language classes held in the Learning Center, events and other activities focusing on Italian culture and traditions, and more recently hosting bocce tournaments. In early 2022, the MHF realized a long-awaited goal with the Murer House and Gardens being added to the National Register of Historic Places. In recognition of the MHF’s on-going sustainability efforts and major accomplishments over the years, the City of Folsom recently approved a long-term lease of 55 years ensuring the MHF will continue to manage and operate the Murer House and Gardens now and into the future.
As a non-profit corporation, the MHF depends entirely on revenue from memberships, classes, events, and donations. Your contribution is essential in enabling the MHF to continue its critical mission of educating and promoting both awareness and understanding of the Murer House and Gardens site, as well as the important role the Murer House plays in Folsom’s Italian heritage.
Soon, the MHF anticipates launching a major capital project and fundraising effort to replace the current outdated Learning Center with a state-of-the-art facility containing increased assembly and classroom space, office accommodations for MHF staff and volunteers, and a modern commercial kitchen. You can help us continue the legacy of our namesake, Giuseppe “Joe” Murer, and our founder, Cindy Baker, by donating to the MHF.
